Fakarava Island

Fakarava Island is the second largest atoll behind Rangiroa.  The atoll is in the shape of a rectangle, the main entrance to the lagoon is located in its north-eastern end,  this large pass is known as Passe Garuae; the southern pass is called Tumakohua, which is loaded with white and black tip sharks!! Fakarava has about 700 inhabitants; the main village is called Rotoava. Fakarava is also well known for its Tahitian Pearls and also farmers copra and has a large tourism industry.
