Black Tahitian Pearls

If you are a lover of pearls, then you must be aware of Tahitian pearls, the most valuable pearls available in the market. these pearls symbolize beauty and class and are often called the ‘queen of pearls’. These pearls have got their name from the island of Tahiti, their place of origin. Tahitian pearl is extracted from the black lipped oysters found throughout the  Tahitian Islands. They are available in different colors ranging from iridescent chocolate , black, grey, blue and greenish black.

The quality of a pearl is determined by the health and colors of its lagoon birthplace, this is what makes the Tuamotu Islands such a ideal location for the highest quality pearls. Pollution from fertilizer or sewage can make a lagoon unsuitable for pearl farming, which is why pearl farms concentrate on lightly populated atolls where other forms of agriculture are scarcely practiced. Tahitian black pearls are created exclusively by the giant blacklipped oyster, Pinctada margaritifera, which thrives in the Tuamotu Archipelago. It takes around three years for a pearl to form in a seeded oyster.
